NEW YORK CITY

Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel

Pictures quite literally do not do this floral arrangement justice!! It was so SO pretty, but we never did figure out if the flowers were real or not. 😅

Sheraton is well known all over, but when looking for where to stay in NYC, I didn’t know if I wanted a boutique hotel or something like the Sheraton. As with almost any other trip we’ve taken, we used Costco Travel and what they had to offer was really the deciding factor.

This trip was mainly for a wedding in New Jersey, but we wanted to stop by NYC and make a trip out of it since neither of us had ever been!

We saw this hotel as an option, and when I read it was in Times Square, that was all I needed to know to book it. Times Square was one of the major things we wanted to see during the day and at night. What better way to see all of Times Square than to stay right by all the bright billboards and chaotic traffic of cars and people?! 😀

When we arrived to check in, they asked if we wanted to upgrade to a room on a higher floor. I asked them what the highest floor would be with the current rate we had gotten through Costco, and they said it would be the 6th floor, but with an upgrade, we would be up on the 39th floor for $35+tax per night. You already know we immediately said yes. 🙂 (I thought an upgrade like that would be at least $75+ per night, so I was all in!)

The Lobby

My first impression of the floral arrangement at the front entrance was nothing but heart eyes. 😍 After that, I honestly didn’t pay attention to many of the lobby features cause I was so obsessed with the front entrance. My only thought was to get as many pictures of it and with it as possible!

Still, the lobby was of course very clean and well-presented. There were a couple of restaurant options but we never tried any of them.

We were a little confused at one point because we were told there was a Starbucks in the lobby. But, after walking back and forth we couldn’t find it anywhere. Finally, we figured out that the lunch spot “serves” Starbucks coffee but it’s not an actual Starbucks establishment. It wasn’t a big deal since we’re not coffee drinkers, but we wanted to get some water from there in order to use up our room credit.

The restrooms were also a bit hard to find. We went to NYC knowing that public restrooms wouldn’t be as easy to find as in Missouri, but they were actually kind of rude about it. When I asked where I could find them they didn’t want to say unless we were guests there (which we were) and on the way to the ramp, another man stopped us and asked where we were going. All of that and you can’t even go into the restrooms without first swiping your room key.

Other than that, my only complaint about staying here was that in order to have them hold our luggage for a few hours, we had to pay PER BAG. Our flight wasn’t until around 8 pm and our transportation was scheduled to pick us up at 4:40 pm so between our late 1 pm checkout time and then, we wanted to go sightseeing while we still could. I tried to call in advance before our trip, but could never get through to someone at the actual hotel lobby. I somehow always ended up with someone from corporate, but I called in advance just to double-check that luggage hold was even an option.

We’ve never been charged to have our luggage kept in a room for a few hours so I was a bit surprised when they said it’d be $5 per bag. It’s not much, but by the end of our stay in NYC, we were EXHAUSTED from all of the unexpected charges we had experienced and this was just one more thing to add to that list.

The Room

Like I said before, our room ended up on the 39th floor and we had a direct view of Times Square! It was a little further away than I had imagined before getting there but still had a beautiful view nonetheless.

Based on videos I’ve seen online, I didn’t expect our room to be very big. We usually like to lay our things out and “claim” a corner or section of the room for each of our things. If it weren’t for the decent-sized closet space, we would’ve been a lot more cramped. I didn’t find myself needing more space, but it was definitely a small-ish room.

The Food

The only food we tried here was breakfast. On the morning of the wedding, we needed to figure out our transportation to New Jersey because we had kinda left it up in the air, so we were crunched on time. I figured room service would be our best option since we had room credit and it would be the easiest to eat quickly before we left.

It was literally $88 for two sets of scrambled eggs, toast, potatoes, sausage/bacon, and juice!!! Was it good? I suppose. But not $88 good. The actual plates were $31 each but then the tax, service charge, and $15 built-in gratuity really added up.

The Location

Honestly, there are A LOT of hotel options everywhere you look in this city, but I think this was perfect for our first time here. Located in the center of everywhere we wanted to go, there was always a subway entrance or bus stop just a few steps away if we didn’t feel like walking to our next stop.

Summary

I’m tempted to stay here again if we ever return, but I know my curiosity to try something new will most likely win. The location can’t be beaten if you want to be in the center of it all like we did. And the housekeeping and room service staff were always very nice and attentive, just keep in mind the room service prices if you don’t have room credit to use up! It matters where you stay when you’re away from home and I think staying at the Sheraton in Times Square made our trip even better!
