Paula’s Choice Skincare – My Review After 1 Month

I first heard about this brand from my friend Trinh and was so excited to try it out! She specifically recommended the Barrier Repair Moisturizer, but when I checked out their website I found some other stuff that sounded good too. I received my package right around thanksgiving and at first, I was going to wait until I finished the other products I was using at the time, but I couldn’t wait any longer and decided to go ahead and start trying these out.

Here’s my honest review of each of them after having used them for the past month. Each product is also linked in case you want to check it out yourself, and if you end up making a purchase through one of these links I’ll receive a very small commission at no extra cost to you!

Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum with Retinol

At first, I was all in for using as much retinol as I could, but about a week in I realized I was overdoing it. I was using this serum along with the Barrier Repair Moisturizer and with it also being wintertime, my skin was getting SO DRY. So I stopped using both and now only use one or the other each day.

With that being said, this one definitely does its job. There’s no weird smell and it’s a perfect consistency for a serum. This is one I would for sure buy again.

Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol

Out of these 8 products, this one is my favorite. I started out with high expectations because it was the one that Trinh recommended and it really did meet my expectations. It goes on very smoothly and doesn’t leave a residue or smell. I’ve noticed a slight difference in fine lines around my mouth, but I’m not sure how much more of a difference I’ll see after I use it for a longer time. I’m also curious to see how long one bottle lasts since I use 2-2.5 pumps each time which is every other day.

After I apply it onto my face, I pat it in since I’ve heard that helps the product go deeper into the skin.

Expert Exfoliation Duo – 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant Salicylic Acid

The name on this one threw my mind off a little bit. Seeing as how it’s an ‘exfoliant’ I felt like I had to rinse it off after applying it instead of leaving it on.

I would consider this to be more of an expensive toner. I didn’t feel any burning or itchy sensation like with the other bottle in this duo, but it didn’t feel like an exfoliator either. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll repurchase this one.

Expert Exfoliation Duo – 25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant Peel

Let me start by saying this one BURNED the first time I used it. I almost took it off right after applying it but I left it on just to see if it actually exfoliated. I didn’t feel like it did a huge difference. I like clay masks way better and feel like those get deeper into the pores than this one.

Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen

I wanted to like this one so bad, which I do… as a body sunscreen. I bought it to use mostly as a face sunscreen but it left white flakes and white cast especially on my cheeks and forehead. My makeup also didn’t go on as smooth after having this on. I like the Tula or Supergoop Unseen sunscreens way better for everyday use since those do work well with my makeup.

Anti-Aging Eye Gel

The bottle for this one was very small since it was a sample size (free with $49+ purchase) but you don’t need to use much since it’s just for under the eyes. I use a little less than a pea size and split that between both eyes.

This one does have a slight smell to it but I don’t notice it for long. I’ve seen a slight difference with my fine lines and am hoping that with using it longer I’ll see even more noticeable results.

The Unscrub

This face wash has tiny little soft beads that aren’t rough on my skin. It’s really soft and silky, but overall I felt like it was slightly greasy. I usually double cleanse so when I use this for the first run, I feel like I need to wash my face the second time not only for a deeper clean but to also wash away the greasy residue that this leaves behind.

I didn’t purchase this one as it was a free gift since the other products I did buy were over $49, but I don’t think I would buy this myself, based on my skin type.

Lipscreen

I was hoping unlike other lip balms with sunscreen that it wouldn’t have that certain taste to it, but unfortunately, it does. :/ It may not bother other people as much, but after a while, the taste gives me a headache. Overall I don’t think this one’s worth $10.

Summary

I love trying new products in hopes of finding my new favorites. Although I didn’t love all 8 of these, the ones I would buy again and recommend to others would be the Super Antioxidant Serum, the Barrier Repair Moisturizer, and the Anti-Aging Eye Gel!
